Christopher Eccleston, PhD

Christopher Eccleston is Professor of Psychology at the University of Bath where he directs the Centre for Pain Research. He is also coordinating editor of the Pain, Palliative and Supportive Care Cochrane Review Group. He is particularly interested in establishing the evidence base for treatments in chronic pain.

Chris has worked in the UK NHS where he established the Bath Pain Management Unit, a tertiary national referral centre for chronic pain management, and where he introduced the first intensive residential multidisciplinary programme of cognitive behavioural therapy for adolescents with chronic pain. The Centre for Pain Research is currently active in research on evidence based treatments, on paediatric chronic pain management, including the role of parents in treatment, on attentional mechanisms of analgesia, and on telemedicine solutions for chronic pain.

Professor Eccleston has published over 200 peer reviewed scientific articles, with a personal H citation index of 46. He currently manages a grant portfolio of circa 1.5M and is active in both the training of new scientists and in pursuing the transfer of knowledge to new users, including business, policy makers, and practising clinicians and scientists.
